Congenital heart diseaseы can also be corrected using modern endovascular techniques. These procedures are also called minimally invasive, which means they are less traumatic and cause less disruption to the body.

Advantages
The chest is not opened up and there is no large incision.
Shorter operating time.
General anaesthesia is not used.
The operation is much easier to tolerate, which is particularly important for newborn babies.
The recovery period takes no more than two weeks.
Method of implementation
The surgery is performed under local anaesthesia and is supervised by X-ray equipment. The surgeon inserts a catheter through the vessels directly into the heart and performs plasty of the defect. Depending on the type of defect, a special intravascular device – a balloon, occluder or stent is used. In the case of an atrial septal defect, for example, an occluder – is used, which opens like an umbrella at the site of the defect and closes it off, preventing the pathological flow of blood from the left atrium to the right atrium. However, in the case of stenosis, the pathological narrowing of the valve needs to be increased, using an inflatable balloon.
